Wataru Kominaga at Japan Society

Commissioned by Tiffany Lambert—curator and interim director of Japan Society—we conceived the exhibition fixtures for Wataru Kominaga’s portion of the show “Refashioning” in 2022. A theme in Kominaga’s work is repurposing, guided by that idea, we orchestrated an adaptable apparatus: extendable pool-skimmer poles anchored by 1 gallon jugs filled with plaster. Although aesthetically minimal, this design left a few details communicating these were found objects altered with minor intervention. The system provided the flexibility to show a variety of garment combinations as well as large textile pieces.
