Geology Transition Mirror
2011 – Current
Each individual Geology piece is unique due to process and availability of stones.
Transition refers to the raw edge of the silver as well as silver’s classification as a transition metal (in the d block of the periodic table of elements). The mirrors are made by first UV bonding stones to a clear piece of glass. To create the mirror surface, a silver nitrate solution is poured onto the glass and chemically bonds to the surface. Not enough silver solution is mixed on purpose so that the pool of silver leaves a random live edge that fades to clear.
On the back side, the decorative stones also act as the anchoring points for the steel mounting brackets which hang it on the wall. While the piece carries an ornate quality, it subtly adheres to Modernist principles, where structural elements are seamlessly integrated into the design as decorative features.
Geology Transition Mirrors are available exclusively through The Future Perfect.
